The INSPIRED pipeline

Four levels. One accountable pipeline.

Every level is community-recruited, academically anchored, and industry-deployed. Progression is real — with named partners at each step.

01

Community Health Worker (CHW)

Foundational health equity, health information, and AI-literacy training — delivered with community-based organizations and academic partners.

02

Community Health Outreach Worker (CHOW)

Bridge role between CHW and clinical care — with data, referral, and technology skills for community-governed AI deployments.

03

Apprenticeship

Paid, structured on-the-job training with industry and territorial health-system partners.

04

Fellowship & Capstone

Public-health AI capstone and fellowship program — accountable to real community deployments, not just credit hours.

NHIT INSPIRED™ AI Academy

Powered by NHIT. Driven by Community. Strengthened by Partnerships.

NHIT INSPIRED™ AI Academy is an NHIT-led, interdisciplinary workforce development initiative that brings together academic institutions, public health professionals, community-based organizations, and technology and industry partners to translate artificial intelligence into real-world public health solutions.

Unlike traditional training programs, INSPIRED is built around hands-on learning, executive leadership development, and community-defined challenges. Fellows collaborate across disciplines on applied Capstone Projects that connect emerging AI capabilities with measurable community and population health priorities.

  • Real-World Capstones: Applied AI projects addressing challenges identified by communities and public health partners.
  • Academic & Industry Collaboration: Engagement with universities, subject-matter experts, and technology partners, with opportunities for academic credit where approved.
  • AI Workforce & Leadership Development: Building practical AI fluency, strategic thinking, responsible AI adoption, and executive decision-making capabilities.
  • Community-Centered Impact: Translating community voice, data, and research into actionable intelligence, implementation strategies, and scalable solutions.

Our goal is not simply to train AI users. It is to develop the next generation of public health leaders equipped to turn intelligence into action and innovation into community impact.
